Good race at the Pine to Palm 100 in southern OR! I felt big improvements on my ability to continually hike fast uphill over last year. I knowingly took more risks this year based off of how I felt at Run Rabbit Run, and I think they paid off well. I put more effort into the uphill hiking, ran the downs more aggressively, and opened up when I could. This course had the same elevation gain/loss as RRR, albeit slightly less elevation, and I crushed the distance. I went through the first crewed aid station at mile 28 in 53rd place, but ended up finishing 20th! I was able to avoid any bonking or serious lows. I had a few times where I was a bit lonely or something – the long hike up Dutchman (7mi) was tough and I didn’t see another runner the whole time. I pee’d 7 times during the race, which was a bit surprising as I wasn’t taking in that much water – although I did drink to thirst and beyond many times.

I had a great crew, as always. Laura, Dad, and Alex made the trek out to OR with me and were a great support team. I always look forward to seeing them! Thanks to Alex for keeping track of all the food, water, and supplements taken during the race!
